This site has been due for a refresh in many respects. The theme looked very dated, and I've posted no new content since 2013. The only updates to this site have been for core and contributed Drupal modules. I'm planning to start posting more here again, but I wanted to refresh the look of this site first.
With Drupal 7 approaching end of life in 2021, I also wanted to investigate the increasingly-popular Drupal fork called Backdrop CMS. I must say, I'm impressed! It was very easy to convert my Drupal 7 site to Backdrop. To refresh the appearance of the site, I created a very simple subtheme of their default theme, Basis. It looks simple but effective. It shows that Backdrop CMS is an excellent option for Drupal 7 sites that want life beyond Drupal 7 end-of-life, and for many Drupal 7 sites, updating to Backdrop does not take a lot of time or effort. There are cases where it may prove more difficult, such as having to port a complex theme, custom modules, or contributed modules that haven't already been ported, but it is still easier than updating to Drupal 8 or 9. For organizations that have limited budget to invest in a website update, Backdrop CMS is a good option.
I will be writing more soon. Until then, if you are looking for options for your Drupal 7 site, consider Backdrop CMS.
